Job description:

The Young Investigator Group Magnons: X-rays and Models is looking for

Conduct an independent research project on magnetic excitations and ultrafast dynamics in functional oxide materials

Participate in the application and further development of X-ray spectroscopy methods at BESSY II and other national and international facilities

Perform experiments at synchrotron radiation sources and X-ray free-electron laser facilities in collaboration with external research partners

Apply and further develop advanced theoretical and data analysis methods for X-ray spectroscopy

Actively contribute to the collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment of the group

A Master’s or Diplom degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related discipline, with above-average academic results

Basic experience with scientific data acquisition and analysis

Practical experience with experimental techniques for the preparation or characterisation of solid-state materials

Experience with X-ray spectroscopy, thin-film growth, ultrafast measurements, or scientific programming would be an advantage

Motivation to work in an interdisciplinary and international research environment

Willingness to participate in experiments at national and international large-scale research facilities

Bachelor’s and Master’s degree certificates and academic transcripts

A one- to two-page statement describing your motivation for pursuing a PhD in magnetism and X-ray spectroscopy and your interest in this specific project

Names and contact details of two or three academic referees who can comment on your research experience and suitability for doctoral study
